Privacy
Privacy notice
This notice explains the limited personal data processing involved in delivering the website and handling email correspondence.
Last updated: 22 September 2026
Who is responsible for the data
Sam Lee, trading as Laser Gear Scout, is the controller responsible for the personal data described in this notice. You can contact the controller at contact@lasergearscout.com.
What personal data may be processed
Website access data
The site is publicly hosted using Cloudflare Workers Static Assets on Cloudflare infrastructure. When you access the site, Cloudflare may process technical request and log data associated with that access. Depending on the request, this may include an IP address, traffic-routing data, system-configuration information, other information about traffic to and from the site, and security, error or abuse-detection events generated while delivering and protecting the service.
Email correspondence
If you email contact@lasergearscout.com, we may process your name, email address, message headers and routing information, message content, attachments, subsequent correspondence and any other personal data you voluntarily supply.
What the site does not use
The site code does not intentionally set cookies, use browser storage, load advertising technology or collect form submissions. Google Analytics is not installed, there are no user accounts or contact forms, and affiliate links are not currently active.
Purposes and lawful basis
- Operating, securing and delivering the website: technical request and log data is processed where necessary for our legitimate interests under UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f). Those interests are providing a reliable website, delivering requested pages, protecting the site and its visitors, preventing abuse, and diagnosing security or technical faults. Visitors can reasonably expect a website host to process limited request data for delivery and security. The processing is limited to technical information needed for these purposes; the site does not use it to build advertising profiles.
- Responding to enquiries, corrections and disclosures: email information is processed where necessary for our legitimate interests under UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f). Those interests are communicating with readers, investigating and responding to questions or correction requests, recording relevant commercial disclosures, and maintaining editorial accuracy and accountability. A person who chooses to email can reasonably expect the message to be read and used for those purposes. We use only the information reasonably needed for the correspondence and any resulting editorial action.
These uses follow the purpose, necessity and balancing approach in the ICO's legitimate-interests guidance. Providing information by email is voluntary. If you do not provide a working reply address or enough relevant detail, we may be unable to respond or investigate the issue.
Service providers and recipients
- Cloudflare: Cloudflare provides Workers Static Assets hosting, content-delivery-network and security services. Cloudflare may process technical request and log data to deliver and protect the site. Cloudflare Email Routing receives email sent to the contact address and forwards it to the configured destination. Email content and associated routing data therefore transit Cloudflare's systems. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
- Google/Gmail: email routed to the contact address may be received, handled and stored in Gmail. Google may process message content, sender and recipient details, headers and associated service data under its Privacy Policy.
Personal data may also be disclosed where required by law, or where reasonably necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. We do not sell personal data or share it for advertising.
International processing and transfers
Cloudflare is a US-based global provider. Its current Privacy Policy says that it primarily stores information in the United States and European Economic Area and may transfer or access information worldwide. For transfers from the UK to the United States, Cloudflare says that it relies on the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and, if that mechanism is unavailable, standard contractual clauses with supplementary measures as necessary. It says that it also uses standard contractual clauses for other relevant international transfers.
Google states that it maintains servers around the world, so Gmail information may be processed outside the UK. Google says it applies the protections in its Privacy Policy wherever information is processed and uses applicable legal transfer mechanisms. See Google's Data transfer frameworks information.
You may contact us for more information about the safeguards relevant to your personal data.
Retention
Website technical data
Laser Gear Scout does not create a separate application log or visitor profile. Technical request and security data handled through Cloudflare is retained according to the applicable Cloudflare service configuration and policies. We keep or access such data only while it remains necessary to deliver and secure the site, investigate an active fault or abuse event, or meet a legal obligation. We do not retain a separate copy once those purposes no longer apply.
Email correspondence
Email correspondence is kept only while needed to respond to or investigate the matter, document a relevant correction or commercial disclosure, maintain editorial accountability, resolve a dispute, comply with law, or establish, exercise or defend legal claims. The retention decision depends on whether the matter remains open, whether the correspondence remains relevant to published content or an editorial decision, and whether a legal or dispute-related need continues. Messages are deleted when none of those criteria applies. Provider backup copies may remain temporarily under the provider's own deletion and backup cycles.
Individual rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to ask for access to your personal data, correction of inaccurate data, deletion, and restriction of processing. These rights are not absolute and may be limited by data-protection law. The right to data portability does not apply to the processing described in this notice because it is based on legitimate interests rather than consent or contract.
Your right to object: because the processing described above relies on legitimate interests, you have the right to object. If you object, we will stop the relevant processing unless there are compelling legitimate grounds to continue or the data is needed for legal claims.
To exercise a right, email contact@lasergearscout.com. We may need enough information to confirm your identity and locate the relevant data.
No automated decision-making or profiling
Laser Gear Scout does not use the personal data described in this notice for solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects, or for profiling.
Complaints
Please contact us first if you have a concern so that we have an opportunity to address it. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
