Choose the laser you actually need

Work backwards from what you need to make, not forwards from a machine advert.

Start with your work, not the wattage

Laser Gear Scout is for serious first-time buyers, committed hobbyists and small workshops deciding whether a desktop laser belongs in their workflow. The site is an editorial decision library. It does not sell machines and does not contain affiliate links.

Research-only analysis The useful first question is not “Which model?” It is “Which process can produce the required result on this material, in this workspace, at an acceptable complete cost?”

Our decision order

  1. Define the product, material, thickness and required finish.
  2. Decide whether you need to mark, engrave or cut.
  3. Reject unsuitable technologies and unsafe installation options.
  4. Confirm workspace, extraction, software and UK support requirements.
  5. Only then compare eligible machines.
Sourced fact HSE describes local exhaust ventilation as an engineering control for airborne contaminants and says it should be designed for the process and contaminant. See HSE: Local exhaust ventilation.

What you will not find here yet

No machine has been represented as physically tested by Laser Gear Scout. There are no rankings, star ratings, live prices, deals or revenue links. Those features must earn their way into the site through documented evidence.
